In 2004, a new dining hall was built at Tihoi Venture School, which is home to the 18-week outdoor pursuits and social development programme of St Paul’s Collegiate School.
The programme has been in operation since 1979 and, as a former timber mill, significant building work has been carried out to ensure the venture school offers the best possible environment for the social, outdoor and academic development of its students.
Twice a year, 64 Year 10 boys call Tihoi their home. Students are placed into a communal living environment with seven other age mates where they cook, clean and take responsibility for their houses.
The dining room provides a place for students to gather daily for lunch (the only meal they don't cook themselves). It also provides a space for group learning activities. The previous dining room had become extremely run-down.
Through the generosity of the Gallagher Group, whose financial contribution ensured this multi-purpose development, this facility is now used daily for meeting, learning and dining. It has also become an asset for use by the wider community at corporate retreats, weddings and funerals.
